Physical Set Up

There is so much to think about when setting up a classroom, but the way it is set up (what you have in it, what's on the walls, spaces available to students etc, etc..) can really make a difference for your students and how the feel and work in the room.

  • I have not yet gotten to use this site for a class of my own but I stumbled across and think it might help to visualize the physical layout of the classroom.

Routine and Structure

Setting up routines, expectations, schedules ahead of time with students can help many feel more ready for their day. Some ideas:

  • Visual Schedules
  • Visual reminders (ie "hand up to speak" card on desk or visual timer)
  • Class contract (class writes expectations together and signs)
  • Labelled class areas (ie Math centre)
  • Set Routines
  • Practice Time

Set-up to help with Curriculum

There are many ways to set up a class to help students achieve success academically during the school day.

This Wordle gives just some ideas
